About the PhD Workshop
The HTSF PhD workshop provides an excellent opportunity for early-stage PhD students to present their work and receive constructive feedback from peers and seasoned researchers active in their line of research.
The PhD workshop will be held on Nov 9, 2022, one day before the 27th edition of the High-Tech Small Firm (HTSF) conference which will be hosted by FH Münster University of Applied Science in Münster, Germany from the 10th-11th of November 2022.
The PhD workshop will have two major components:
Panel discussion: will focus on PhD graduate career trajectories and will be held under the theme of “Life after a PhD”. The panel will bring together a mix of young and experienced PhD’s both within and outside academia to reflect on their career journeys after PhD.
Paper presentation: each PhD student will be given 15 minutes for presentation and 25 minutes for discussion.
We are happy to introduce the faculty members participating in the PhD workshop.
Each PhD student is required to hand in a research note as part of their application for the PhD workshop (maximum. 1,500 words excluding references) until 7st of October, 2022 (to be sent to: firstname.lastname@example.org).
Research notes could either be tailored to the overall design of the PhD journey or a particular research article:
PhD-focused submission: for PhD students who want to take a bird’s eye view and focus on the bigger picture of their PhD trajectory. For instance, the structure of their PhD, the fit/misfit of the different papers planned, and the overarching aim and contribution of the PhD dissertation.
Article-focused submission: for PhD students who want to focus on a particular research article that is at an early stage of development. If applicants have a paper at an advanced stage of development or completed, they are advised to submit it to the conference.
For more detail on the structure and content of the research note please check the guideline in the annex.
Note that, since all abstracts are reviewed, no names or contact details must appear in the text. Please also indicate whether you are making article-focused or PhD-focused submission in the subject line of your email to: email@example.com
Notification of acceptance and preparation
Applicants will be notified of the acceptance or rejection of their proposal by 14st of Oct 2022. Up on acceptance,
Each PhD student will be asked to submit a more elaborated version of their concept note by 21st of Oct 2022. This entails an elaborated concept note of not more than 3000 words excluding references.
Additionally, each PhD student will be asked to review accepted research notes made by fellow PhD students and become a discussant during their presentation. As a discussant, they are expected to prepare questions, comments, and remarks to facilitate a discussion during the parallel sessions. The overall discussion will be chaired by a designated faculty member.
